The hype that’s surrounding the new Daft Punk album is something we’ve not seen in music for a long time.
Last night at Coachella the performance by the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s was eclipsed by a 90 second advert for Daft Punk’s new album featuring a snippet with Nile Rodgers (of Chic) and Pharrell Williams.
Normally any record featuring Williams would immediately turn me off (he even managed to kill of Madonna’s music career, apparently they argued the whole time) but this is easily the bands best work since ‘Discovery’ in 2001. Their 1998 single under the Stardust name has clearly been an influence.
Below is a recording of last nights advert.
…and here’s their 1998 Stardust track.
Apparently the single is going to be released on Monday, bring on May 21st for the album.
