Desert Island Disc #1 – Daniel Avery ‘Drone Logic’

Drone logic

As I stated in my post the other day, 2013 has been one of the best years for music I can remember and the cream of the crop was Daniel Avery’s ‘Drone Logic’.

Released on Erol Alkin’s Phantasy label, ‘Drone Logic’ is without doubt the best electronic album since The Field’s 2007 debut ‘From Here We Go Sublime’ and my personal favourite of 2013.

If I had to name influences it’s Underworld’s ‘Rez’ and the finer moments from The Chemical Brothers ‘Surrender’. The thing that really sets Avery apart from his peers is his ear for melody and his wide range of influences, he’s just as likely to play My Bloody Valentine as he is to play Ricardo Tobar’s latest tune.

You can listen to highlights of the album below or a playlist of my favourite tracks of 2013 here.
